Elaine did say the record was part of her goals. She mentioned it in an interview when she was named athlete of the year. Should Elaine win both 100 & 200 titles at Eugene, she would be in a class by herself. If she should add even one record to it, that would be an even greater plus.
Shelly can't afford to lose the 100. She would need to break the record to solidify herself as the 100m GOAT.
