Wheeling Track & Field Athletes to Help at USA Track Sanctioned Meets at Wheeling Park High School

Wheeling, W. Va. – At Wheeling University, our Mission revolves around Learning, Leadership, and Service with and among others. This summer, the Wheeling University Track & Field team will be putting the Service with and Among Others aspect of that mission on display as they help out at a trio of USA Track Sanctioned meets at Wheeling Park High School on June 10th, June 24th, and July 8th. Sprinter Susan Trammel, High Jumper Andrew Taylor, and Graduate Assistant TJ Tindal are among the several Cardinals that will be helping out at the events throughout the summer months.

The events were all set up and organized by Wheeling University Assistant Track & Field Coach, and Class of ’13 Alumni, Brandon McKinley, who runs the OG Athletic Club here in Wheeling, West Virginia. McKinley grew up right here in Wheeling and has always had a love for the sport of Track & Field, playing at both Wheeling Park High School and Wheeling University. He began the OG Athletic Club as a way to bring Track & Field to the youth of the area and allow them a chance to participate in the sport and learn from Wheeling University Track & Field athletes and coaches.

“I have started a Track club in Wheeling to try and promote the sport,” said McKinley. “It also gives the youth a chance to have something fun, competitive, and positive to do this summer and allows them the opportunity to experience the sport.

The three USA Track Sanctioned meets will be hosted at Wheeling Park High School at their Track. The first meet will be held this Saturday, June 10th, with the other two meets coming on June 24th and July 8th, also at Wheeling Park High School. The Wheeling University athletes will be serving as mentors and coaches for the event, giving the athletes a perspective of what it is like to be a college Track & Field athlete.
