AUSTIN, TEXAS — The Ivy League impressed on the first day of competition at the 2023 NCAA Track & Field Outdoor Championships as the league came away with one national champion and four additional All-Americans.

Harvard’s Kenneth Ikeji got the day started with a national championship in men’s hammer throw which was the first event of the meet. Sitting in a tie for third-place going into his last throw, Ikeji achieved an Ivy League record mark of 77.92m to take home the title for the Crimson.

Princeton’s Sondre Guttormsen and Harvard’s Graham Blanks were the two other Ivies to earn First Team All-American honors. Guttormsen, the defending champion in the pole vault, finished with a clearance of 5.60m. Blanks ended the day with a sixth-place finish in the men’s 10,000m run with a time of 28:15.90.

Harvard’s Aaron Shirley and Alexander Kolesnikoff both earned Second Team All-America honors in the 400m hurdles and shot put, respectively.
