Four Schools Finish In Top 37 Of Directors’ Cup Standings

–Four Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) schools have finished in the Top 37 of the 2022-23 Learfield Directors’ Cup NCAA Division III standings.

 

University of Wisconsin-Whitewater led the conference entries in the standings, placing 11th with 793.25 points, while UW-La Crosse was 13th with 782.50, UW-Oshkosh 36th with 471.50 and UW-Eau Claire 37th with 467.50.

 

Johns Hopkins University (Md.) accumulated 1,282 points to claim the top spot in the standings that recognized the best NCAA Division III overall athletics programs in the country. Tufts University (Mass.) finished second with 1,126.50 points, Williams College (Mass.) third with 1,112.75, Massachusetts Institute of Technology fourth with 1,063.25 and Emory University (Ga.) fifth with 924.50.

 

Additional WIAC schools securing a spot in the standings included: UW-Stevens Point 74th with 238 points; UW-Stout 114th with 149.50; UW-Platteville 124th with 138.50; and UW-River Falls tied for 168th with 102. A total of 323 institutions were represented in the standings.

 

The WIAC secured three NCAA Division III national titles during the 2022-23 academic year as UW-La Crosse finished first in men’s indoor track & field, women’s indoor track & field and women’s outdoor track & field. UW-Oshkosh won the National Collegiate Gymnastics Association championship.

 

The Learfield Directors’ Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution’s finish in NCAA Championships.

 

Overall, 18 sports are counted in the final standings, four of which must be men’s and women’s soccer and men’s and women’s basketball. The next highest (14 max.) sports scored for each institution, regardless of gender, are used in the standings.
