Cowgirl Indoor Track & Field Holds Steady in Top 15 of USTFCCCA National Ratings Index

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State men’s and women’s indoor track & field each appeared in the top 15 of the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Ratings Index, the organization announced Monday.

Both the Cowboys and Cowgirls have each been ranked inside the top 15 of every poll thus far, with each squad making an appearance in the top 10 at least once. The Cowgirls enter this week ranked No. 13 with the Cowboys just behind at No. 14.

For the Cowgirls, Billah Jepkirui and Winny Bii lead the charge ranked No. 4 and No. 5 in the 3,000 Meters and Triple Jump, respectively. Bii’s jump of 13.49 meters at the Arkansas Invitational broke the Kenyan national record in the event as well as the school record. Jepkirui’s school-record time of 8:49.08 from the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener in December also ranks her tenth in NCAA history.

Behind them, Taylor Roe (No. 7, 3,000 Meters), Gabija Galvydyte (No. 7, 800 Meters), Olivija Vaitaityte (No. 8, Pentathlon) and Molly Born (No. 8, 5,000 Meters) are all ranked inside the top 10 of their respective events. Rounding out the rankings for the Cowgirls are Galvydyte (No. 16, Mile), Saara Hakanen (No. 30, High Jump), Jepkirui (No. 34, 800 Meters) and Maddie Meiner (No. 35, Pentathlon).

On the men’s side, Brian Musau and Ryan Schoppe carry much of the load as they currently sit third and fourth in the NCAA in the 3,000 Meters. Alex Maier and Denis Kipngetich make up a majority of the rest of OSU’s points in the index as they are currently ranked No. 9 and No. 12 in the 5,000 Meters, respectively. Rounding out the rankings for the Cowboys are Musau (No. 15, Mile), Laban Kipkemboi (No. 18, Mile), Philip Frank (No. 19, Heptathlon), Mehdi Yanouri (No. 23, 800 Meters) and Koryee Wyatt (No. 41, 60 Meters).

OSU returns to the track this weekend at the Eagle Elite Invitational at the state-of-the-art the TRACK at New Balance in Boston Feb. 9-10.
