Patriot League Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week Announced (2.6.24)


BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Navy took home five Patriot League Indoor Track and Field weekly honors following a team win in the Army vs. Navy Star Meet. Bucknell took home the final award.  

Brahmir Vick, a senior at Navy, earned Patriot League Men’s Track Athlete of the Week honors following a record-breaking race in the 60-meter hurdles. Vick notched a time of 7.74, which is a school record and currently ranks 24th in NCAA Division I. He also competed in the 60m dash and won the race with a time of 6.83 seconds. Navy’s Jia Anderson took home the Patriot League Women’s Track Athlete of the Week award following three record-breaking races. Anderson set the school record mark in the 60m hurdles, the 60m dash, and the 200m. Her 60m hurdle time of 8.36 seconds ranks 64th in NCAA DI. 

Joshua Boamah collected his fifth Patriot League Men’s Field Athlete of the Week nod of the season after winning the weight throw and shot put. Boamah set school records in both events, with a mark of 21.12m (69′ 3.5″) in the weight throw and a mark of 18.71m (61′ 4.75″) in the shot put. His shot put ranks 17th nationally, while his weight throw ranks 28th. Navy’s Alayna Schloeder garnered Patriot League Women’s Field Athlete of the Week honors after a win in the pole vault with a mark of 4.01m (13′ 1.75″). She currently ranks 75th in NCAA DI and third all-time in the Midshipmen record book.  
 
Freshman William Pierce earned Patriot League Men’s Rookie of the Week honors following a 7.32m (24′ 0.25″) mark in the long jump for Navy. His leap currently ranks second in the Patriot League and is the best mark among League freshmen. Bucknell’s Justley Sharp won Patriot League Women’s Rookie of the Week honors for the second time this season with her 14.29m (46′ 10.75″) mark in the shot put. She currently holds the best freshman shot put in the League.  

American University’s Lorelei Bangit, Boston University’s Foster Malleck and Bucknell University’s Karen Hull and Megan Quinn earned honorable mention honors.

Brahmir Vick, Navy, Sr., Middle Distance, Syracuse, Ind./Wawasee 
*Vick broke the Naval Academy record with a 60m hurdle mark of 7.74 seconds. 

*His time currently ranks 24th in NCAA Division I and is the best Patriot League mark this season. 

*This is Vick’s second Men’s Track Athlete of the Week award this season.  
 
Patriot League Women’s Track Athlete of the Week 
Jia Anderson, Navy, So. Sprints/Hurdles, Wilmington, Del./Padua Academy 
*Anderson set school records in the 60-meter (7.53), 60-meters hurdles (8.36), and the 200 meters (24.18).  

*Her 60m-hurdle time currently ranks 64th in NCAA DI and leads the Patriot League, while her 60m time is also tops in the Patriot League.  
 
Patriot League Men’s Field Athlete of the Week 
Joshua Boamah, Navy, Sr., Throws, San Diego, Calif./Scripps Ranch 
*Boamah set school records in both the shot put (18.71m / 61′ 4.75″) and the weight throw (21.12m / 69′ 3.5″) during his win in both events.  

*His shot put ranks 17th nationally, and his weight throw ranks 28th nationally. 

*This is Boamah’s fifth field athlete of the week award this season.  

Patriot League Women’s Field Athlete of the Week 
Alayna Schloeder, Navy, Sr., Pole Vault, Rockford, Minn./Rockford 
*Schloeder won the pole vault with a mark of 4.01m (13″ 1.75′). 

*Her mark currently ranks 75th across NCAA Division I.  

Patriot League Men’s Rookie of the Week 
William Pierce, Navy, Fr., Jumps, Sterrebeek, Belgium/Brussels American School 
*Pierce took second place in the long jump with a mark of 7.32m (24′ 0.25″) 

*His mark currently ranks second in the Patriot League.  
 
Patriot League Women’s Rookie of the Week 
Justley Sharp, Bucknell, Fr., Throws, Homer City, Pa./Homer Center 
*Sharp notched a second-place finish in the shot put with a mark of 14.29m (46′ 10.75″). 

*Her mark is the best freshman mark in the Patriot League this season. 

 
Honorable Mention 
Karen Hull, Bucknell, Sr., Hurdles/Jumps, Randolph, N.J./Randolph  
*Hull finished third in the long jump with a mark of 5.92m (19′ 4.75″). 

*She also finished fourth in the high jump with a mark of 1.70m (5′ 7″). 

Meghan Quinn, Bucknell, Sr., Sprints, Lititz, Pa./Warwick 
*Quinn won the 400m with a time of 54.57, which established a school record, giving Quinn eight record marks at Bucknell. 

Foster Malleck, Boston University, Gr., Distance, Kitchener, Ontario/St. Mary’s 
*Malleck notched a 3:57.00 mile time, which is the second-best in the Patriot League this season. 

*His time currently ranks 26th in NCAA Division I. 

Vera Sjöberg, Boston University, So. Distance, Stockholm, Sweden/Rudbeck   
*Sjöberg set the school record in the 1000m with a time of 2:46.61. 

*Her time currently leads the Patriot League.  

Lorelei Bangit, American, Fr., Sprints, Charles Town, W.V./Jefferson 
*Bangit set the school record with a 56.38 second time in the 400m. 

*Her time currently ranks fifth in the Patriot League.

PATRIOT LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIPS  
The 2023-24 Patriot League Indoor Track and Field Championship will take place beginning Saturday, Feb. 24 and concluding on Sunday, Feb. 25. at Boston University’s Track & Tennis Center. All nine men’s programs and each of the 10 women’s teams will compete.
