Track & Field On Deck For Two-Day Meet At Marshall Invitational

DAYTON – The University of Dayton track and field will head to Marshall University to compete in the Marshall Invitational on Friday and Saturday. This meet will prepare the Flyers for the A-10 Indoor Championships, and it will be the last meet for most of the Flyers before then.

“We are looking for the team mindset to be in attack mode,” asserted Associate Head Coach Aaron Gordon. “This is our final tuneup before the A-10 Championships and we would like to see them go out and not only try to improve their conference seed, but to also clean up a few things in their competition strategies. This is a great meet to polish our race strategies, and we look forward to seeing some great performances.”

The Flyers excelled at the Meyo Invitational as they set 10 PRs and six all-time marks in the record books.

Lauren Santiago set a PR with a new fifth-best 400m dash time in school history with her 57.05 second finish.

Kendall Johnson, in just her second long jump appearance, broke the school record again with a 5.88m jump. This also earned Johnson her second A-10 Rookie of the Week award of this season.

Jadyn Haywood had exceptional performances in the 200m and 60m races while inserting herself as the second-fastest all-time for both events in the record books. Her 200m time was 24.56 seconds and her best 60m time was 7.50 seconds.

Abby Carter also earned PRs in two events while rewriting the record books for both. Carter’s 5000m time was 16:35.31, and stands as the third-best time in UD history. She also ran a 4:53.61 mile, which is the new fourth-best mile time in school history.

Dayton will be bringing its track athletes, throwers, and men’s cross country squad to Marshall for an eventful two days.

The throwers will compete in the weight throw on Friday and the shot put on Saturday. Jillian Yates will look to continue her success as she has set PRs in both shot put and weight throw events in her last two meets.

Jayla Pruitt will compete in the long jump and triple jump on Saturday. The junior from Louisville, Kentucky has already set top-five all-time marks in the record books for both events this season. Her triple jump of 11.86m at the Wolverine Invitational even tied the school record.

Carter will be competing in the mile run on Saturday while looking to improve her mile time for the third week straight. She will also be competing in her first 800m race of the season on Saturday. Her indoor 800m PR of 2:17.01, which she set at the Marshall Invitational in 2023, is less than one second away from being top-five all-time (2:16.09 is the fifth-best time).
