Hadley Runs Top Mile Time as Women’s Track and Field Competes at BU

Boston, MA — The WPI women’s track and field had a fantastic meet at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational at BU on Friday, including a school record from graduate student Grace Hadley (North Reading, MA).
Hadley ran the top time in Division III this season in the mile, going 4:46.48. That time is now the WPI program record and the eighth-best time in all of Division III history. Hadley’s mark bested the previous indoor record of 4:56.10, which was set by Sydney Packard ’20 in 2018.
Senior Isabel Hallal (Foxboro, MA) recorded a New England Division III qualifying mark of 59.81 in the 400m race, while freshman Maeve Steckley (Rochester, NY) nearly hit the mark, going 1:01.20, just .01 off. Senior Leithsa Dimanche (Billerica, MA) ran a 1:01.86 in the event, while junior Lauren Mitcheson (West Bridgewater, MA) went 1:05.40. 
The Engineers also had three student-athletes with strong races in the 1k. Graduate student Amelia Kokernak (Niskayuna, NY) and senior Caitlin Guilfoyle (Hastings-on-Hudson, NY) each tallied collegiate personal bests with Kokernak going 2:58.94 and Guilfoyle at 3:00:00. Graduate student Charlotte Kokernak (Niskayuna, NY) also had a good race, with a season-best time of 3:03.94.
Seniors Vivienne Evans (Newtown Square, PA) and Jazmyn Ewing (Worcester, MA) both raced well in the 200m event. Evans notched a season-best time of 25.64, while Ewing hit her all-time personal best, going 26.12.
Graduate student Elise Deshusses (Chapel Hill, NC) also notched a season-best at the BU event, going 2:20.05 in the 800m race.
Wrapping up the Friday portion of the meet, seniors Elizabeth Matticoli (South Brunswick, NJ) and Morgan Collins (Hudson, MA) finished ninth and 10th in the weight throw. Matticoli went 14.42m, while Collins put up a throw of 14.37m.
The Engineers’ distance medley relay team of Amelia Kokernak, Hallal, Deshusses, and Hadley will race tomorrow with the men’s events at BU. The full team will be back in action on Saturday, February 17 at Springfield’s Triangle Classic, which begins at 11am.
