Track & Field: Panthers Return From GVSU Big Meet With Ten Top Three Finishes


 

ALLENDALE, Mich. – Eastern Illinois indoor track and field wrapped up their exhibition on Friday evening, as they traveled to Michigan to compete in the Grand Valley State Big Meet. The Panthers brought home one gold, ten top three, and several top ten finishes.

 

In the track events, Daniel Lacy and Riley Wittkamper opened their weekend on a high note for EIU, as they took first and second place in the men’s 400m. Lacy crossed the finish line at a mark of 48.02 with Wittkamper coming right behind with a time of 49.25. The time serves as his new personal best in the event.

The men’s 4×400 relay team had another strong performance in the season. This time, Billy Bailey Jr., Ricky Johnson, Daniel Lacy, and Cameron Yarbrough ranked second with a time of 3:11.26. The time puts them in second place for school’s all-time list in the event.

Taji Mathis-Akinremi finished third in the 200m dash with a time of 22.18.

On the women’s side of the track events, Kylie Haacke set a new personal best in the 5000m run, as the distance runner ranked seventh with a time of 18:04.93.

In the 200m, Makenna McBride also had a new personal best after crossing the finish line in tenth with a time of 25:58.

60m – Taji Mathis-Akinremi, 9th – 6:97

5000m – Andrew Pilat, 6th – 14:35.42 – New personal best

5000m – Joe Stoddard, 7th – 14:36.82

Mile Heat 1 – Adam Swanson, 5th – 4:06.98

Moving onto the field events, Matthew Gladieux collected two second place finishes, as the thrower reached the 16.07m (52′ 8.75″) mark in the shot put and the 18.57m (60′ 11″) mark in the weight throw.

The Panthers would not stop there with top five finishes in the shot put, as Bradley Olysav ranked fourth with a distance of 15.95m (52′ 4″) and Alex Stout took fifth at a mark of 15.78m (51′ 9.25″).

 

In the pole vault, Declan Ritzenthaler tied for second with a height of 4.88m (16′ 0.25″). Ramsey Hunt took second in the long jump invite with a distance of 7.40m (24′ 3.25″), while Greg Downs finished third in the long jump with a distance of 6.93m (22′ 8.75″).

On the women’s side of the field events, Abby Venhaus finished second in the long jump after reaching the 5.74m (18′ 10″) mark.

Holly Vogt was fifth in the long jump invite with a distance of 5.55m (18′ 2.5″). The mark serves as Vogt’s new personal best.

High jump – Aiden Meyer, 7th 1.90m (6′ 2.75″)

High jump invite: Elijah Skutt, 5th 2.06m (6′ 9″) – New personal best 

The Panthers will return to action on Friday, Feb. 16th when they travel to Normal, Ill. to compete in the ISU Redbird Tune-Up. This marks the last meet of the indoor season before the OVC Championship.
