Boston, Mass. – (February 9, 2024) – A busy weekend for the Fordham track & field team started on Friday with the women’s team taking part in the BU Valentine Invitational, hosted by Boston University at the BU Track & Tennis Center.
The Rams had a very good day, posting three new ECAC qualifiers and one school record.
Kyla Hill had a phenomenal afternoon, beginning in the 60-meter dash invitational event, where she qualified for the final with a season-best time of 7.59 seconds. She then placed fourth in the final at 7.75 seconds.
Hill was not finished as she later broke the Fordham record in the 400-meter dash in an ECAC qualifying time of 55.93 seconds, placing 23rd overall. The previous record was 56.37 seconds by Titi Fgade in 2015.
Hill did have company in those events with Michele Daye placing 73rd in the 400-meter dash in 57.89 seconds, while Dillyn Green was 83rd in the 60-meter dash in 8.10 seconds.
The Rams’ other two ECAC qualifiers came in the distance events. Meredith Gotzman finished 54th in the unseeded edition of the 3,000-meter run in an ECAC time of 10:07.43, while Caroline McDonagh was 29th overall in the unseeded 5,000-meter run in an ECAC qualifying time of 17:35.02.
The last event for the Rams on Friday was the 800-meter run with a trio of runners. Mary Kathryn Underwood was the top finisher in 118th place at 2:14.42 with Brenna Sears in 203rd (2:19.43) and Megan McCann in 210th (2:19.98).
Action for the Rams continues on Saturday with select men competing at the BU Valentine Invitational, while the rest of the men’s and women’s teams will be at the Big Apple Invitational on Staten Island.
