Track & Field Rumble Their Way To Two Team Wins



CHICAGO – University of Chicago track and field welcomed over a dozen teams to Henry Crown Fieldhouse as they hosted the Windy City Rumble on Saturday. The Maroons took home top honors with both teams and were backed by some standout and record breaking performances.

Women’s Team – 1st of 11 teams

MEN’S TEAM RECAP

  • The men won their second meet of the year thanks to some excellent performances. Andrew Ray turned in two of those as he won the 60-meter hurdles in a time of 8.38 while also being a member of the first place 4×400 meter relay team.
  • Sanju Patel also helped out the cause for the Maroons when he won in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15:03.08.
  • The field athletes did their part to earn the win as well. The Maroons took first and third place in the high jump with Aryan Shrivastava earning the win with a height of 2.00 meters. Shrivastava ended up being a double winner on the day when he went 14.09 meters in the triple jump to take the event.

UCHICAGO TOP FINISHERS

WOMEN’S TEAM RECAP  

  • The Maroons grabbed first place at their home meet which was aided by two gold performances in the track events. Ren Brown continued her hot indoor season with a first place in the 60-meter hurdles (8.76) while Emma Kelly stepped up the distance to a mile and won with a time of 5:06.06.
  • The Maroons picked up two individual wins in the field events. The first came from Selah Dungey who earned the top spot in the high jump with a height of 1.63 meters. The other first place result came from Marina Semple who covered 5.19 meters in the long jump.
  • Another week, another top performance from Molly Laumakis. The fourth year placed second and broke the school record in the shot put for the third straight week which now stands at 14.99 meters after today. That mark is good enough to currently rank first among all competitors in NCAA D-III by over 20 centimeters. Laumakis also finished third in the weight throw.

CHICAGO COMMENTS

  • Several Maroon runners also participated at the Big Meet hosted by Grand Valley State University on Friday. Tommy Donohoe took home first place honors in the mile run at the meet which is one of the best in the Midwest for the indoor season.
  • The women also found success at the added meet. Elisabeth Camic placed fourth in the mile run while Evelyn Battleson-Gunkel earned a third-place result in the 5000-meter. Topping the Maroon efforts though was Estelle Snider as she brought home a second place standing in the same event as Battleson-Gunkel.

WHAT’S NEXT
The Maroons will host another event inside Henry Crown Fieldhouse next weekend when they welcome teams to the Margaret Bradley Invitational on Saturday, February 17th. The last home meet of the indoor season will kickoff at 11:30 am.
