ACC Announces Week Two Outdoor Track and Field Performers of the Week


CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – As another week of the outdoor and field season draws to a close, the Atlantic Coast Conference has announced its weekly award recipients for the second week of the 2024 season.

A pair of shattered school records in javelin, set by Deisiane Teixeira and Devoux Deysel, Miami swept the men’s and women’s weekly field awards. Florida State also claimed a pair of awards as Tyra Wilson was named Women’s Outdoor of the Week, while Andre Korbmacher earned Men’s Outdoor Freshman of the Week honors for a strong showing in the 110-meter . Virginia Tech’s Judson Lincoln IV was named the Men’s Outdoor of the Week, while Clemson’s Gladys Chepngetich earned Women’s Outdoor Freshman of the Week honors.

ACC Men’s Outdoor Track of the Week

Judson Lincoln IV, So., Virginia Tech, Columbia, Md.

Lincoln IV anchored the Hokies’ 4×400-meter relay team, which won the Weems Baskin Relays in Columbia, , on Saturday. Crossing the line with a time of 3:05.56, Virginia Tech finished with the third-fastest time in the country this season. The Columbia, Maryland, native also posted a strong showing in the 200-meter, winning the event in a personal-best time of 20.60, ranking 12th in the NCAA this season.

 

ACC Women’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week

Tyra Wilson, So., Florida State, Columbia, Mo.

Wilson got off to a hot start to begin the outdoor season, finishing second in the 400-meter at the FSU Relays. Wilson’s time of 57.53 leads the ACC and ranks fourth nationally throughout the 2024 season.

 

ACC Men’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week

Devoux Deysel, Grad., Miami, Garsfontein, South Africa

In his Miami debut, Deysel made an immediate impact for the Hurricanes, finishing second in the javelin. Deysel, a graduate transfer from Division II Angelo State, leads the ACC and ranks fifth nationally after a throw of 76.58m (251’ 3”). The Garsfontein, South Africa, native also broke the Miami outdoor program record, beating out NFL Hall of Famer Ed Reed’s mark of 66.32m, set in 1999, by more than 10 meters.

 

ACC Women’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week

Deisiane Teixeira, Jr., Miami, Presidente Prudente, San Paulo, Brazil

Teixeira made her Miami debut over the weekend at the Hurricane Collegiate Invitational and turned heads with a conference-leading throw of 53.98m (177’ 1”) in the javelin, good for a first-place finish. The mark is also a Miami program record and ranks fifth nationally.

 

ACC Men’s Outdoor Freshman of the Week

Andre Korbmacher, Fr., Florida State, Bellingham, Wash.

Korbmacher’s outdoor debut was one to remember as the Bellingham, Washington, native posted the fifth-best 110-meter time in program history. Korbmacher posted a wind-legal time of 13.56 seconds, which leads the ACC and ranks third nationally this season.

 

ACC Women’s Outdoor Freshman of the Week

Gladys Chepngetich, Fr., Clemson, Eldoret, Kenya

Fresh off being named the ACC Indoor Freshman of the Year, Chepngetich took home the 800-meter title at the UCF Knights Invite with a time of 2:01.70. Her time leads both the ACC and the national rankings following the week. She also helped lead Clemson to a first-place finish in the 4×400-meter relay, crossing the line in 3:33.27, which also leads the ACC.

Mar. 19 – Jamar Davis, NC State

Mar. 26 – Devoux Deysel, Miami

ACC Men’s Outdoor Rookie of the Week

Mar. 19 – Ace Malone, Miami

Mar. 26 – Andre Korbmacher, Florida State

 

ACC Women’s Outdoor Rookie of the Week
