App State’s Smith & ULM’s Raud-Gumiel Earn Sun Belt Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Weekly Honors


NEW ORLEANS – App State’s Taylor Smith and ULM’s Claudine Raud-Gumiel each recorded podium finishes to earn Sun Belt Women’s Outdoor & Field Athletes of Week honors. 

Women’s Outdoor Athlete of Week

Taylor Smith, App State

(Sr. | Sprints | Northern Charleston, S.C.) 

App State senior Taylor Smith recorded three top-five finishes at the Duke Invitational on April 11-13. In the women’s 200 meters, Smith took second with a time of 23.55, which moved her to fourth in the App State all-time list. The Northern Charleston, S.C. native recorded a personal-best and fourth-place finish in the women’s with a time of 11.56. She remains fifth in the App State all-time list for the event. Smith also helped the women’s 4×100-meter relay team to a second-place finish and time of 45.08. In the rankings, Smith stands fourth in the SBC, 17th in the Southeast Region, and 84th in the NCAA in the women’s 200 meters. She stands 15th in the Southeast Region, in the women’s 100 meters. Smith is also part of the women’s 4×100-meter relay that stands fourth in the SBC, sixth in the Southeast Region, 34th in the NCAA East Prelim qualifying list, and 53rd in the NCAA.

Women’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week

Claudine Raud-Gumiel, ULM

(Jr. | Multis |Nice, France)

ULM’s Claudine Raud-Gumiel took first place in the women’s heptathlon at the Carl Knight Invitational after accumulating a personal-best mark of 5,337 points. She placed first in the , high jump and long jump in the event. Her point total tops the Sun Belt performance list and is over 220 points greater than the next closest athlete. She ranks fourth in the South Central region and 23rd nationally with the score.
