Augustana Track and Field Heads to the NCAA DII National Championships


SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Five Vikings will make their way down to Emporia, Kansas to compete in the NCAA DII National Championships on May 23-25. Augustana is coming off a strong performance in the NSIC Championships where the took third and the men took second. The competition will be held on Emporia State’s campus at  Welch Stadium.

A total of 377 student-athletes per gender qualified based on regular-season performances. Qualifying marks from Thursday, Feb. 15 to Sunday, May 12 were taken into consideration.

In their respective events, Ryan Hartman, Andrew Martens, Kaja Salemonsen, Bryn Greenwaldt and Aubrey Surage qualified for the National Championship.

Hartman, a two-time NSIC outdoor champion in the 1500m and 5000m and was named a ​​USTFCCCA All-Region honoree in those events. Hartman will in the men’s 5000m on Saturday at 5:00 p.m. Throughout the season, Hartman has in two 5000m events. He blazed to a time of 13:49.73 at the 2024 Bryan Clay Invitational held April 11-13 and most recently won an NSIC Championship with a time of 14:41.59.

Martens will take on the men’s 110m , he most recently was crowned an NSIC Champion in this event after a time of 13.74. Martens has in the 110m seven times this season and recorded a season-best time of 13.56 at the 114th Drake Relays Invitational. The 110m preliminaries will take place on Friday at 6:35 p.m. and will conclude with the finals on Saturday at 2:45 p.m.

Kaja Salemonsen is set to compete in the ’s where she took part in the event six times this season. She leaped to a season-best mark of 12.85m in the NSIC Championships and was named All-Conference. In the 2024 Red Raider Open back in April, she took first place with a jump of 11.88m.

Two-sport athlete Greenwaldt qualified for the ’s high jump, an event she’s competed in six times this season. She recorded a first-place mark of 1.74m in the USD Challenge on April, 13. She finished on the podium in four of the six times she’s competed.

Surage will take part in the women’s 10000m after she recorded a time of     35:00.07 in the 2024 Bryan Clay Invitational. Her time in the Invite was a college best. Surage has been known for her distance running, where she has taken part in the 1500m, 5000m and 3000m events this season.
