Beard captures SLC award for second straight week

FRISCO, Texas – For the second straight week, McNeese Cowgirl javelin thrower Blanche Beard has been named the Southland Conference Women’s Field of the Week, the league announced on Wednesday.

Beard captured first place in the B Section at the Texas Relays last week, throwing a personal record mark of 164-feet, 5-inches. That length is also ranked as the second-longest in school history.

Her throw improves on her league-topping ranking, now widening it to 21-feet over the second-ranked thrower in the conference. The victory marked her fourth win in four meets on the outdoor season.

Also at that distance, Beard is ranked seventh in the NCAA South Central Region, 11th in the NCAA East Qualifying Region and 27th overall nationally.

Beard and the rest of the Cowgirls and Cowboys and field squad will be back in action this Friday and Saturday when McNeese hosts the two-day Spring Time Classic.
