THE BASICS:
– Meet: 2024 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field National Championship

– Results: T-3rd of 50 (20 Points)
– The Lead: Sophomore Jackson Bliey (Talleyville, Del.) won the first high jump title in the history of the MIT men’s track and field program at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championship on Friday. In addition, first-year Anthony Meng (Scottsdale, Ariz.) placed fifth in the high jump while junior Sam Engebretson (Sioux Falls, S.D.) captured third place in shot put.
EVENT HIGHLIGHTS:
– Bliey claimed the high jump crown with a personal-best height of 2.17m (7′ 0.5″). This was his second appearance at the NCAA Championship as he finished fourth at last year’s outdoor meet. Bliey joins Kimmy McPherson ’23 as the only MIT high jump national champions as McPherson won the title for the women’s team at the 2022 outdoor championship.
– Meng secured fifth place and All-America honors as he cleared 2.08m (6′ 9.75″).
– For the second year in a row, Engebretson placed third in shot put. His fifth throw (17.54m / 57′ 6.5″) moved him up from sixth place to third. Engebretson’s last attempt of 17.83m (58′ 6″), which was a personal best, secured the final standing.
– Junior Walter Truitt (Houston, Texas) and graduate student Kenneth Wei (Mount Sinai, N.Y.) earned All-America Second Team honors following their performances in the 110m hurdles prelims. Truitt placed 12th in 14.40 while Wei finished right behind him in 14.43.
– Junior Ziyad Hassan (Ashburn, Va.) finished 17th in the prelims of the 800m with a time of 1:53.53.
