One Sheridan High School Track and Field Athlete will soon compete at the college level so she can, as she put it, jump in the sand.

Callista Roush has signed her National Letter of Intent (NLI) to compete on the track and field team at Black Hills State University, particularly in the long and triple jump events.

At the Wyoming High School Indoor Track and Field State Meet earlier this month, she placed 3rd in the triple jump and was 5th in the long jump.

As far as what got her into jumping, Roush says it took some persuasion from some friends.

“I’ve been doing jumping since my sophomore year. I did soccer my first 2 years, so I started in indoor and then junior year I did outdoor and that’s when I continued it. Getting into it, I had a lot of friends in it. Micah Palmer, she did long jump and then Vivian only did triple jump and they’ve always been like, ‘oh it’s really fun,’ so I wanted to try it.”

Roush adds she is considering majoring in computer science.
