CORVALLIS, Ore. – University of British Columbia’s Kiana Gibson and Eastern Oregon University’s TJ Davis were named the 2024 Cascade Collegiate Conference Rize Laboratory Track and Field Athletes of the Year, announced by the conference office.
The athletes were nominated and voted on by the head track and field coaches in the CCC.
Gibson is a senior from Ottawa, Ontario. She was a monumental force for the Thunderbirds, becoming a major factor in UBC securing their third consecutive NAIA title. Entering the National Championship meet, she held first-ranked in the 3000-meter steeple (9:51.28), second-ranked in the 5000 meters (16:23.84), and fifth-ranked in the 1500 meters (4:25.31).
She collected two individual event championship titles within a matter of hours at the 2024 NAIA National Championship, winning both the 3000m steeple (10:31.23) and the 5000 meters (17:15.54). Gibson also holds a 4.0 GPA in her Masters of Nutrition and Dietetics program, receiving scholar-athlete honors from the CCC and NAIA.
Davis, a Graduate Student from Sandpoint, Idaho, had an amazing season back after overcoming multiple injuries. At the conference tournament he won the 110-meter hurdles (14.85) and placed 3rd in the 400-meter hurdles (53.73), helping lead the Mounties to a Conference Championship.
He also took the CCC Multi-Event title (6996) and the 2024 NAIA Decathlon title, setting a personal record with 7231 points.
