Kevin Hasley is on to the 300-meter hurdle finals.
The Eagle Valley senior placed eighth in the prelims on Thursday at the Colorado High School state track and field meet to move into the nine-athlete final. His time of 39.94 was just off his personal best of 39.79.
“I feel pretty good,” Hasley said on Friday. “I think I came out, paced it pretty well, kept lane five and four off of me throughout the whole race, which is what I wanted to do.”
Hasley said he had a slight hiccup on the second set of hurdles along the homestretch, but is confident he can clean things up for Saturday’s final.
“I just wanted to tighten up my form and I think I can definitely do a faster time if I can just hold my arms and hold my form through these last couple hurdles,” he continued. “Other than that, I feel pretty happy about it.”

This is the first individual event Hasley has competed in at the state track and field meet; he was a member of the 4×400-meter relay last spring.
“It definitely feels different,” he said. “It makes you feel better about yourself knowing that I’ve worked hard to get here. It’s kind of an honor. Coach Shroll came up to me before the race and was like, ‘you did this — make this your race.’ It feels different than last year, but in a good way.”
Hasley also ran a leg on Eagle Valley’s 4×100-meter relay team on Friday. The Devils ran 43.10 to place 10th, one spot out of qualifying for Saturday’s final.
“It is was it is,” Hasley said. “You can’t have a perfect race every time. We’re not too sad about it — we’re excited we got 10th in state this year because two weeks ago we were ranked 26th.”
Devils 4×400 moves through to finals
Eagle Valley’s 4×400-meter relay team moved onto Saturday’s final. Kevin Hasley, Blake Anderson, Armando Fuentes and Kaden Kraft posted a time of 3:24.29, the seventh-fastest qualifying time, in Friday night’s prelims.
The Devils came into the event with just the 12th-fastest mark (3:26.16), but shaved nearly two seconds off their season best to move into the nine-team final.
Battle Mountain (Caleb Hodges, Axel Gutierrez, Porter Middaugh and Jakob Methvin) ran 3:26.42 to place 11th.
The 4A boys final is at 5:18 p.m. on Saturday and can be viewed on the NFHS network.
The Eagle Valley girls improved upon their qualifying place, running a season-best mark of 4:11.90 to place 16th in the prelims. The Devils team consisted of Lilly Brueck, Ellie Shroll, Ashley Jones and Zakia Shreeve.
