Daysaun Spencer, Meghan Schruben display athleticism for Brentwood track and field

Youth is being served this season in the and field program.

’s Daysaun Spencer and Meghan Schruben were a triple medalists April 13 at the Chartiers-Houston invitational.

Spencer won both the boys long jump and triple jump events with distances of 21 feet, 1.5 inches and 41-4, respectively. The freshman sensation also placed eighth in the 100-meter dash.

Spencer also competed for the football team last fall as a 5-foot-9, 150-pound running back/defensive back.

Schruben, a sophomore, finished fourth in the girls 3,200, seventh in the 800 and eighth in the 1,600.

Schruben also has competed in the 300 at Brentwood, along with the 800 and one-mile run during the indoor season.

She was a member of the girls cross country program in the fall.

Schruben shared the Brentwood High Athletic Boosters “most outstanding team member” honor as a freshman last year with Tafssira Garba Gambari on the girls and field team and with Amelia Foley on the girls cross country team.

The Brentwood boys track and field team had three other individual medalists at the early season .

Junior Daymire Spencer took fourth place in the shot put; he also competed in the 200 and javelin events. Sophomore Cedric Davis placed fifth in the high jump, and also participated in the 200 and long jump events. And junior Brett Barker corralled the seventh spot in the 3,200; he also ran in the 800.

For Brentwood’s girls team, freshman Allison Schruben competed in the three distance events. Her top performance came in the 3,200 where she took eighth place.

Garba Gambari, a sophomore, was a medalist thanks to her seventh-place showing in the 100-meter . She also competed in the 100-meter dash.

Toto, Lucas shine for track teams

Baldwin’s Marcus Toto and Brooklyn Lucas earned the early season spotlight off their performances April 13 at the Tri-State Track Coaches Association outdoor championship.

Toto, a senior, won the boys long jump event with a leap of 21 feet, 11.5 inches and placed fourth in the triple jump event.

Lucas, a junior, finished first in the girls shot put with a toss of 35-7 and narrowly missed winning a medal in the javelin with a ninth-place finish.

Senior Jake Kunzman was a triple medalist for the boys team as he rolled “triple threes” in the field events, placing placed third in the long jump, discus and javelin. Kunzman also ended up ninth in the shot put competition.

One other medalist for the Highlanders was senior Jonus Ruvolo, who captured seventh place in the 200-meter dash.

Jahzara Green, a junior, also was a medalist for the girls team with a fourth-place showing in the discus event.

Baldwin’s 3,200 relayers secured seventh place in both the boys and girls races.

TJ’s Kashak, Virgin, Miller early season medalists

Thomas Jefferson’s girls team wrapped up the Tri-State competition April 13 with three individual medalists.

Juniors Sylvia Kashak and Olivia Virgin placed fourth and seventh, respectively, in the 800 and high jump, while sophomore Marissa Miller finished fifth in the triple jump event.

Miller also competed in the 100-meter dash and long jump. Virgin also was a long jump event participant.

The TJ girls 400-meter relayers secured seventh place at the early season invitational.
