The University of Minnesota Duluth men’s track and field team is sending senior thrower Eli Bicek to the NCAA DII Outdoor Championship in Emporia, Kansas from Thursday, May 23 to Saturday, May 25.
Bicek placed first at the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Championship in hammer throw with a 60.5m toss. He broke the previous UMD program record and earned his provisional 20th spot in DII men’s hammer throw this season.
The last time UMD men’s track and field sent an athlete to the outdoor championship was in 2014. Junior Dan Nielsen placed 17th in the 3000m steeplechase. In 2005, Josh Dark placed 14th in the hammer throw for the Bulldogs. Bicek will be just the third UMD thrower to compete in the outdoor hammer throw championship.
The men’s hammer throw finals are scheduled for 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 23. Each day will be available to watch on NCAA.com, with throwing events coverage also available on the MIAA Network.
