Helias boys, girls track and field wins team titles at Blair Oaks Invitational


WARDSVILLE — The Helias Crusaders and Lady Crusaders combined to win 15 events Thursday, cruising their way to a first-place sweep in the Blair Oaks Invitational at the Falcon Athletic Complex.

The Helias girls, who won nine of the 19 events, recorded 221.5 points. Eldon was a distant second with 117 points and Blair Oaks took third in the nine-team event with 115.5 points.

The Helias boys had six event wins and finished atop the team standings with 216 points. Eldon placed second with 143 points and Blair Oaks was third with 88 points.

Mary Lorang led the Lady Crusaders with three individual wins, taking home titles in the girls shot put, discus and javelin.

In other individual events, winning for the Helias girls were Izzy Struemph in the 200-meter dash, Kenadi Harrison in the 400-meter dash and Daelyn Crisostomo in the pole vault.

The Lady Crusaders won three of the four relay events. Struemph and Isla Alfultis ran on both of Helias’ first-place 4×100- and 4×200-meter relays. Addy Dollar and AnnaJo Hill rounded out the 4×100, while Crisostomo and Harrison were the other two runners on the 4×200.

Leading Helias to victory in the girls 4×800-meter relay were Iris Morrisey, Lauren Verslues, Lauren Mathews and Emmie Patek.

Matthew Malmstrom was a double-winner to lead the Crusaders, finishing first in the 110-meter hurdles and the 400. Ian Benne placed first in the 800-meter and Logan Hillman won the long jump.

Helias also won two of the four boys relays. Ben Lanigan, Owen Gipe, Hillman and Alex Marberry finished first in the 4×100, while Harrison Knernschield, Nick Ammons, Benne and Daniel Morris won the 4×800 for the Crusaders.

The Blair Oaks Falcons won three individual events in their home meet.

In the field events, Carson Luebbering won the shot put and Tomas Gonzalez won the pole vault for the Blair Oaks boys. On the , Jaxon Engelbrecht finished first in the 300-meter hurdles.

The Eldon boys and girls teams each won two events.

Zoe Martonfi was a double-winner for the Lady Mustangs, placing first in the 100- and 300-meter hurdles. She added runner-up finishes in the 1,600-meter and the triple for a total of 36 team points.

On the boys side, Andrew Beanland won the 100 for the Mustangs and Vijay Jones took first in the discus.

Kylee Richey was a triple-winner to lead the Versailles Lady Tigers. Richey finished first in the long jump, the triple jump and the high jump.

Iberia’s Clayton Parker was a double-winner, leading the Rangers with individual titles in the boys high jump and triple jump.

Fatima and South Callaway each had one event win at the meet. Easton Haslag won the boys javelin for the Comets and Reece Pahl finished first in the girls 100 for the Lady Bulldogs.
