ISU and KU Open 2024 OTF Season Collecting First Set of Weekly Honors

Iowa State’s Cam Jones (Men’s) and Rachel Joseph (Co-Women’s) along with Kansas’ Gabrielle Gibson (Co-Women’s) earned the first weekly awards of the 2024 Big 12 Outdoor & Field season. This is the first career Big 12 weekly nod for the trio.

Jones won first place in the men’s shot put at the USF Invite. His throw of 19.27 meters marked him as the NCAA leader and No. 6 on the world rankings in the event. Jones, the reigning Big 12 indoor champion, currently sits at No. 5 in the Iowa State record books.

Joseph posted the NCAA-leading time of 52.21 in the 400 meters on Saturday. Already owning the program indoor record (51.98) which she set at the Big 12 Championship, the 2023 Big 12 Academic All-Rookie selection’s time last week was close to eclipsing the program’s outdoor 40-year-old 400-meter record (51.84).

Gibson claimed the gold medal in the women’s 100-meter hurdles at UCF’s Black & Gold Invitational. She crossed the finish line at 13.07 seconds to clip the previous program record by .20 (13.27, 2007). The mark is the fastest in the Big 12 and ranks second in the NCAA this season. The sprinter followed up her winning performance as a member of the women’s 4×400 relay team that placed first with a time of 3:31.09, the fastest in the Conference.
