ISU, UT and TTU Claim Big 12 OTF Weekly Awards


Iowa State’s Janette Schraft shared Women’s of the Week with Texas Tech’s Ruta Lasmane while Texas’ Leo Neugebauer secured the men’s weekly honor. It is the first career weekly accolade for Schraft and Lasmane while Neugebauer collects his second career Big 12 outdoor and field honor.

Schraft clocked a 9:48.20 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase during her first meet this season at the Stanford Invitational. A season ago, she became the first Cyclone woman to finish the event in less than 10 minutes. During last week’s , the redshirt senior clipped her previous collegiate best by 10 seconds (9:57.55). Competing against other top NCAA runners and professional athletes, she set this season’s leading mark followed by the runner-up posting the nation’s second-best time of 9:54.71.   

Coming off an NCAA title in the triple jump, Lasmane leaped 13.88 meters to claim her first win of the outdoor season in the event. The winning mark happened during her first attempt, which was also her first jump in any competition during the outdoor season. The senior holds the best mark this season with the next closest recorded at 13.71 meters.

Neugebauer won the men’s decathlon at the Texas Relays, his third consecutive title, with a score of 8,708. Already owning the NCAA record, his score last week ranked as the third-best in NCAA history.  He placed first in six of the 10 events, which included a personal best throw in javelin (58.99m) and recording the farthest-known shot put throw (17.26m) by a collegian decathlon . He was also awarded USTFCCCA’s D1 Men’s of the Week for his performance.
