BRUNSWICK, Maine – A pair of Bowdoin College track & field athletes have been recognized in NESCAC Weekly Awards handed out on Tuesday.
Hurdler Max Russo (Whitefish, Mont.) has been named the NESCAC Men’s Track Athlete of the Week while thrower Corinne Ahern (Newbury, Mass.) was named NESCAC Women’s Field Athlete of the Week.
At the Pine Tree State Classic, Russo broke a 48-year-old Bowdoin school record in the 400 hurdles with a personal best time of 52.90. Russo eclipsed the mark of 53.50 held by Thomas Getchell since 1976. Russo’s time leads the NESCAC in the event and ranks fifth in Division III. Russo was named the Hillman Award winner as the men’s track MVP of the meet.
Ahern posted multiple wins in the throwing events at the Pine Tree State Classic. The senior posted the top mark in the javelin (39.60m) and the hammer (46.49m) with personal best throws. Ahern’s marks rank second in the NESCAC in both events and the javelin mark is 22nd in Division III.
The Polar Bears will head to Tufts on Saturday for the 2024 NESCAC Track & Field Championship.
