NORFOLK, Va., May 5, 2024 – The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) will host the 2024 Outdoor Track & Field Championships running May 6-8 at Dick Price Stadium.
Wednesday’s action will be streamed live on ESPN+, beginning at 1:00 p.m.
Monday’s action will get underway at 1 p.m. with the start of the men’s decathlon, and the women’s heptathlon will get underway at 1:15 p.m. The 10,000-meter races will wrap up the day, with the women at 7 p.m. and the men at 7:45.
Day one will also see the MEAC hand out its first medals of the three-day event, crowning champions in the men’s and women’s high jump and discus events.
The women’s heptathlon and the men’s decathlon beginning at 9:00 a.m. with winners announced later Tuesday afternoon. Running events will get underway at 2:50 p.m. with the women’s 100-meter hurdles preliminary heats, while the men’s 3,000m-steeplechase will end the day at 6 p.m. Medals will be distributed to the winners of the women’s and men’s heptathlon and decathlon, long jump, shot put, hammer throw, and steeplechase.
Wednesday’s action will start at 10:00 a.m. with the women’s pole vault, men’s triple jump and women’s javelin finals. The men’s pole vault will begin at 12:00 p.m. followed by the women’s triple jump and men’s javelin throw finals.
The ESPN+ broadcast will go live with the start of the running events at 1 p.m. with the women’s and men’s 4×100-meter relay events beginning the track events. The championship will conclude with the women’s and men’s 4x400m relays, starting at 4:35 p.m.
The awards ceremony will follow the conclusion of the men’s 4×400-meter relay on Wednesday. The top three finishers in each event will be named All-MEAC.
Select throwing events, such as the discus, hammer throw and javelin, will be held at the NSU football practice field.
The shot put will take place just outside of Dick Price Stadum, to the left behind the press box.
Norfolk State and Howard are the two-time defending champions, with the Spartans taking the men’s crown and the Bison the women’s title in 2023. Both programs have also won their respective cross country and indoor team championships this season, looking to complete the season sweep.
