Men’s And Women’s Track And Field Compete At The Friar Invitational


PROVIDENCE, R.I.–The Providence men’s and women’s teams competed at the Friar Invitational at the Ray Treacy at Hendricken Field in Providence, R.I., on April 12. The Friars claimed seven first-place finishes and recorded four facility records. 

Kimberley May (Auckland, Zealand) entered the day holding the school and facility record of 2:05.00 in the 800 meters. She broke that record today in a time of 2:03.46 to place first. Cara Laverty (Derry, Ireland) followed in second place with a time of 2:07.87. Halle Atkinson (Franklin, Mass.) ran a 2:11.01 and Kiera Hall (Christchurch, Zealand) finished in 2:12.58. 

Nicole Borowiec (Denville, N.J.) set a facility and program record in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.35 and finished first. 

Shannon Flockhart (Longstanton, England) set a facility and personal record of 9:09.35 in the 3,000 meters. Lilly Tuck (Sunderland, Canada) finished second in a time of 9:30.44. Claire Kelly (Cornwall on Hudson, N.Y.) followed close behind in a time of 10:07.67. 

Laura Mooney (Cappincur, Ireland) claimed first in the 5,000 meters with a time of 16:29.36

In the women’s , Providence claimed the top-three finishes. Jill Fenerty (Franklin, Mass.) placed first in a time of 56.79. Maeve O’Neill (Cork, Ireland) and Alex O’Neill (Ennis, Ireland) followed in 57.15 and 57.67, respectively. 

Tessa Hunt (Wellington, Zealand) finished fourth in the mile with a personal record time of 4:47.07. Emily DiSarno (Westfield, N.J.) ran a 5:24.69 and Shea Podbelski (Norton, Mass.) finished in 5:25.84. 

Borowiec led the Friar women in the with a fourth-place finish in a time of 12.72. Following Borowiec was Charlotte Cousins (Madbury, N.H.) in 12.93, Jenna Jacobs (Jefferson, N.Y.) in 12.95, Ava Russell (Babylon, N.Y.) in 13.06, Cate Parks (Marion, Mass.) in 13.08, Emme Conan (Skaneateles, N.Y.) in 13.40 and Eve Rodriquez (Norton, Mass.) in 13.86. 

In the 200 meters, Russell and Jacobs finished sixth (26.98) and seventh (26.99), respectively. 

On the men’s side, Brett Lehman (Lower Gwynedd, Penn.) placed first in the with a facility record time of 48.36. 

Will Rainey (San Jose, Calif.) finished first in the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 56.77, setting a personal record. 

Zane Powell (Auckland, New Zealand) ran an 8:22.07 in the 3,000 meters to place fourth. Luke Coffin (Annapolis, Md.) followed in fifth with a time of 8:23.03. Jacob Hefele (Danbury, Conn.) rounded out the Friars with an 8:39.20 time. 

In the 5,000 meters, Shane Coffey (Naas, Ireland) ran a 14:32.07 time followed by Grady Satterfield (Bowdoinham, Maine) with a 15:06.08 time. 

Rainey led the Friar men in the 200 meters with a personal record time of 23.01 to finish sixth. Following Rainey was Nik Ventura (Jamison, Penn.) in 24.26, Nico Fanuele (Wilmington, Mass.) in 24.38 and Jon Mignacca (Seekonk, Mass.) in 24.64.  

In the men’s mile, Patrick Thygesen (Brisbane, Australia) ran a 4:04.10 to finish seventh. Will Johnston (Auckland, New Zealand) followed in 4:18.50. 

In the 800 meters, Tyler Bartlett (Fairfield, Conn.) finished in a time of 1:54.57 and Nick Cassarino (Durham, Conn.) ran a 1:57.58.

The Friars will compete at the Holy Cross Invitational on April 20 in Worcester, Mass.
