Men’s & Field places second at SoCon Championships

finish for the men’s squad since 2016 outdoor season

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Leading the field after the first day of competition Monday, the VMI men’s and field team fought for a second-place finish Tuesday at the 2024 Southern Conference Outdoor and Field Championships at Samford’s Shauna Yelton Field in Birmingham, Alabama.

The Keydets finished with 133 points for second place, VMI’s finish to an outdoor season since the 2016 campaign. Samford kept the title on its home turf with 217 points, while Furman placed third with 100 points. Western Carolina (92) and Wofford (90) came in fourth and fifth place, respectively.

VMI was fueled by decathlete Isaiah Blount taking home the crown for the multi-event as well as senior Keyandre Midgett winning the triple jump.

VMI Director of Zack Scott

“We fought for every point with exceptional performances from Isaiah Blount on Day 2 winning the decathlon and after the last event – the 1500m – he ran over and finished eighth in the discus with a new personal- mark. Keyandre Midgett continued mastering the horizontal jumps by winning the triple jump after winning the long jump yesterday. I am proud of our staff and cadet-athletes in preparing and doing their best at the championship.”
