Montgomery Academy’s Isabella Johnson signs to Elon for Track and Field

Montgomery Academy three sport athlete Isabella Johnson signs to Elon University for and Field. Johnson has had a successful career as an eagle competing on the volleyball team, swim team, and the and field team throughout her time at Montgomery Academy.

Johnson placed 3rd her freshman year, 2nd her sophomore year, and finished 1st in both her junior and senior year in shot put for indoor and field. Additionally in indoor and field, Johnson now holds the state record in shot put at 38-7.75 for classes 1A-3A. Before this record was broken by Johnson, it stood for 16 years.

In outdoor track and field Johnson holds the school record in discus (124-3) and in shot put (40-5.25).  Johnson finished up 3rd her freshman and sophomore year and 1st her junior year in shot put and then 3rd place her freshman and sophomore year and 2nd place her junior year in discus. As of now Johnson holds the top spot in shot put in the AHSAA rankings for all classes and then is in fifth place overall for discus.

While Johnson still has the remainder of her senior outdoor track and field season left, she is excited for what awaits her at the college level at Elon.

“I just love the school I love the campus, the academics are just what I’m looking for and then I got selected to be in the leadership fellows program which I’m super excited about. I really connected with the coach and I love all the teammates and it’s just the perfect fit,” says Johnson.
