MSD Track and Field Wins 4 District Championships; 4 Teams Continue Postseason Run – Parkland Talk

Marjory Stoneman Douglas shined in the District Championship, winning four events in .

Connor Stallings led the boys team and finished in second in the 200 meters and third in the 400 meters to lead the Eagles. He was also in the 4 x 100 relay, which took second, along with Sahil Sule, Krish Sule, and Jahron Mcclellan. Matthew Rosenberg also impressed in the 3200 meters and took second, with Austin Khayyami and Cole Spinks coming in third during their event. Sule finished fourth for MSD and came in the top eight along with Khayyami.

Ella Schwartz won the 1600 and 3200 meters for the girls, while Alexis Freckleton took first in the long jump. Sophia Zengotita finished second in the 3200 meters, while Samara Osouna, Jamie Faust, Alexis Freckleton, and Naomi Grissette came in as the runner-up in the 4 x 100 relay. Samantha Bandres Chorus finished third in the 100 hurdles, along with fourth-place finishes from Carolina Schwartz and Taylor Strauss. Next, MSD will compete in Regionals on Wednesday, May 8.

The girls lacrosse team is headed to the Regional Final following a win over Jupiter High School on Tuesday. The Eagles improved to 14-3 on the season and will play either Martin Country or St. Thomas Aquinas High School in the final on Friday, May 3 at 7 p.m.

The baseball team recorded an 8-0 win over Monarch High School behind another gem from Jayden Dubanewicz. The senior pitched five scoreless innings and struck out seven. James Smith pitched the final two innings, while Rylan Lujo led the offense with three RBIs. Nick Diaz drove in two, with Niko Benestad, Bennett Gary, and Erick Torres all driving in one for the team’s 20th win of the season.

They willl play Boca Raton High School in the final on Thursday, May 2 at 6 p.m. The Bobcats are 19-7 this year and beat Spanish River Community High School 2-0 in their first playoff game.

The softball team lost to Coral Glades 6-0 and is now 13-10 this year. They will await the results to see if they will compete in Regionals while boys volleyball team played J.P Taravella in their first playoff game and picked up a win before losing to Coral Springs Charter in the Championship in five sets to fall to 5-10.
