No. 2 Women’s Track and Field Earns National Runner-Up Finish at NCAA Indoors; Kelley Sets NCAA Division III Record in the 800-Meter Final


VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Senior Emma Kelley of the No. 2 Washington University in St. Louis ’s and field team turned in a historic time at Division III Indoor and Field Championships, Saturday, March 9. With her 800-meter time of 2:04.13, Kelley set the new NCAA Division III indoor all-time record. As a team, the Bears finished in second-place with 49 points.


Over the course of the two-day championship, the Bears racked up 12 All-Americans.


Loras College won the team championship with 51 points while Johns Hopkins University grabbed third with 33 points.


WashU’s second-place finish marked the eight final four finish in ’s indoor and field history (2008, 2012, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2023, 2024).


Kelley broke the previous 800-meter all-time indoor mark of Messiah College’s Esther Seeland, 2:05.39, that was earned on February 11, 2022.


Kelley’s NCAA individual national title is the 42 individual NCAA Championship in WashU history across all programs.


Saturday’s Top Finishers:


800 Meters (Final):

  • TWO ALL-AMERICANS
  • Emma Kelley claimed her fourth NCAA title with her 800-meter crown
  • Kelley won the event by over four seconds with a time of 2:04.13
  • The second-place runner from Baldwin Wallace finished with a mark of 2:09.91
  • Ally Sarussi spun a personal-best 800-meter of 2:10.35 to claim fourth in the event
  • The duo earned the Bears 15 team points in the event

4 x 400 Relay (Final):

(Final):

  • ALL-AMERICAN
  • Ebun Opata leaped her way to All-America status as she posted a mark of 12.31m to take third in NCAA Division III
  • Opata orchestrated six team points for the Bears

Shot Put (Final):

  • ALL-AMERICAN
  • Jenae Bothe notched All-American status as she registered a heave of 13.97m to snag sixth in the event and three team points 

60 Meters (Final):

  • TWO ALL-AMERICANS
  • Jasmine Wright secured sixth-place in the 60-meter final with a time of 7.621 to secure three points for the Bears
  • Maya Davis finished right beind Wright with a mark of 7.629 to haul in a pair of team points for WashU 
  • Davis secured seventh in the event 

(Final):

  • ALL-AMERICAN
  • Nicole Stewart garnered eighth in the 200-meter event with a time of 24.85 to earn the Bears one team point

The Bears will transition to the outdoor portion of its schedule. WashU will host the WashU Triangular on Saturday, March 23, with the first event beginning at 10 a.m. on Bushyhead Track. The Bears will compete alongside Illinois College and Greenville University.
