AUSTIN, Texas — The No. 7/14 Texas Track and Field team registered seven victories on Saturday in the second and final day of the Texas Invitational at Mike A. Myers Stadium. Current Longhorns who claimed wins on Saturday included senior Ziyah Holman (women’s 400 meters), senior Olivia Howell (women’s 800 meters), senior Yusuf Bizimana (men’s 800 meters), junior Ackelia Smith (women’s triple jump), sophomore Jeremiah Nubbe (men’s hammer), senior Marilyn Nwora (women’s shot put) and senior Patrick Piperi (men’s shot put),
In the day’s signature race, former Longhorn Rhasidat Adeleke claimed the title in the women’s 100 meters with a time of 10.84 seconds. Olympic medalist Dina Asher-Smith placed third at 11.10, while former Longhorn Julien Alfred was fourth in 11.143. Sophomore Dejanea Oakley was the top collegiate finisher in fifth overall at 11.144, and junior Kenondra Davis took 10th at 11.40.
The Longhorns recorded a 1-2 finish in the women’s 400 meters, as Holman earned the win in 53.42 and freshman Lauren Lewis placed second at 53.56. Texas also went 1-2 in the women’s 800 meters, when Howell claimed the title in 2:02.92 and junior Amity Ebarb followed in second with a personal-best time of 2:07.14. Freshman Mackenize Browne finished fifth in a personal-best time of 2:09.45.
Bizimana won the crown in the men’s 800 meters with a time of 1:48:05, while sophomore Daniel Howells finished fifth in a personal-best time of 1:51.64 and freshman Jack Boyd finished eighth in a personal-best time of 1:52.26. In the men’s 100 meters, senior Nolton Shelvin was second at 10.17, while senior Marcellus Moore placed third in 10.18 and sophomore John Rutledge took sixth in 10.28.
Former Longhorn Rushelle Burton took the title in the women’s 100-meter hurdles in a time of 12.90, while senior Emelia Chatfield was the top collegiate finisher in second overall at 13.09. Sophomore Kody Blackwood placed third in the men’s 110-meter hurdles at 13.75, and senior Caleb Cavanaugh finished ninth at 14.18. In the men’s 400 meters, sophomore Logan Popelka took third at 46.57, junior Elijah Mosely placed fifth in 46.99 and senior Caleb Hulbin was ninth at 47.49.
One day after claiming victory in the women’s long jump, Ackelia Smith earned the win in the women’s triple jump with a wind-aided mark of 13.51 meters (44-4). The Longhorns registered a dominant 1-2-3 finish in the women’s shot put. Nwora posted the victory with a mark of 17.56 meters (57-7.5) on her sixth and final attempt. Freshman Nina Ndubuisi placed second at 17.44 (57-2.75), and junior Chrystal Herpin took third at 17.36 (56-11.5).
In the men’s hammer, Nubbe claimed the win with a throw of 67.17 meters (220-4) and senior Luke Partridge took fifth at 55.63 meters (182-6). Piperi took home the crown in the men’s shot put with a personal-best mark of 19.52 meters (64-0.5), and freshman Michael Pinones placed fourth at 18.38 (60-3.75).
Former Longhorn O’Brien Wasome earned the title in the men’s triple jump with a wind-aided mark of 16.96 meters (55-7.75). Freshman Kelsey Daniel placed third (15.61/51-2.75), junior Solomon Washington took fourth (15.20/49-10.5) and senior Jathan Belaire finished eighth (personal-best 14.87/48-9.5).
Junior Sam Hurley was third in the men’s high jump with a clearance of 2.05 meters (6-8.75), while sophomore Dylan Lineberger tied for fifth at 2.05 (6-8.75) and freshman Brennen McHenry placed ninth at 2.00 (6-6.75). In the women’s high jump, senior Trinity Tomlinson finished seventh with a clearance of 1.70 meters (5-7). Senior Kiana Lowery placed 11th in the women’s hammer with a throw of 49.17 meters (161-4). In the men’s pole vault, freshman Brock Lewis tied for 12th with a clearance of 4.50 meters (14-9) and Lewis returned to finish 11th in the men’s javelin with a throw of 46.60 meters (152-11).
The Longhorns will return to the track in their final regular-season competition of the outdoor season, when they compete at the Arkansas Twilight on Friday, May 3 in Fayetteville, Ark.
