Purple Eagles Complete Successful Day At Spartan Invite


East Lansing,MI—The Niagara & field team competed in its second event of the spring on Friday. The Purple Eagles traveled to Michigan State to compete in the Spartan Invite.

The freshman duo of Deborah Borysewicz and Lauryn Speicher opened the day for the Purple Eagles in the 100 meter. Borysewicz finished third overall in the event while turning in a time of 12.70. Speicher competed in the 100 meter for the first time in her career and finished sixth overall with a time of 13.17.

Madelaine Schultz and Dayanara Gonzalez were next up for the Purple Eagles as they competed in the 100 meter hurdles. Schultz finished 10th overall in the event as she finished with a time of 16.78. Gonzalez finished with the 13th best time as she finished with a time of 18.06.

Seven different Purple Eagles competed in the 200 meter sprint with three Purple Eagles finishing in the top five. Hannah Adderley-Julien turned in a time of 26.07 which was the second best time in the event. Borysewicz finished just .03 behind Adderley-Julien as she finished third overall with a time of 26.10. Sapphire John finished fourth overall with a time of 26.14. Speicher finished 10th overall with a time of 26.91. Kate Pratt turned in the 11th best time in the 200 meter with a time of 26.95. Daniela Velez turned in a time of 27.23 as she finished 13th. Arrianna Blachowicz turned in a time of 28.27 in her first collegiate 200 meter race.

Pratt and John led the way for the Purple Eagles in the 400 meter as Pratt turned in a time of 58.20 which was the second-best time in the event. John finished fourth overall with a time of 59.71. Blachowicz and Velez finished 14th and 15th respectively with time of 1:04.49 and 1:04.90.

Vanessa Woolery, Lara Gritzek, and Mychena Smith competed in the 400-meter hurdles. Woolery was the top finisher for the Purple Eagles as she finished with a time of 1:08.77 which was 10th overall in the event. Gritzek finished 14th overall for with a time of 1:13.96. Smith turned in a time of 1:14.66 which was the 16th best time in the event.

Gritzek turned in a time of 2:33.52 in the 800 meter. She was the lone Purple Eagle in the event and finished fourth overall in the event.

Alissa Mete set a new personal record in the 1500 meter. She turned in a time of 5:00.98, her previous best was 5:03.18 which was set on April 30, 2022 at the University of Rochester Alumni Invite. Sara Mueller finished eighth overall with a time of 5:16.30. Lydia Chunco turned in a time of 6:14.42 to finish 23rd overall.

Adderley-Julien had a best jump of 5.62 meters in the long jump. For Adderley-Julien it was a new personal record in long jump.  Adderley-Julien had the third best jump of the event.

The day closed out with the 4×400 relay. The team of John, Blachowicz, Adderley-Julien, and Pratt turned in a time of 4:06.99 which was the second-best time in the event.

The Purple Eagles are back in action on Apr. 13 as they compete in the Cortland Upstate Alternative.
