Saints in 2nd after Day 1 of Frontier Conference Track & Field Championships

Men’s and Field | 05/05/24 | 10:03 PM

Butte, Mont. – The Fighting Saints had a strong Day 1 at the Frontier Conference Outdoor & Field Championships.

Carroll sits in second place for both the men and women. The men narrowly trail Montana Tech 109 to 102.5, while the women sit a bit further behind at 97 to 76. It is a tight race for second on the women’s side with Carroll leading Rocky by nine points.

The Saints men won five events on Day 1: 10,000m (Connor O’Hara), 1500m (Brycen Gardner), Pole Vault (Josh Smalley), Javelin (Reuben Hornby), and the Men’s 4x800m Relay. Gardner and Smalley both set personal records, with Gardner’s time earning him the NAIA B Standard in the event and Smalley’s jump moving him to 2nd on Carroll’s Top 10 Performance List. The men swept the 1500 with Peter Rehberger and Zack Gacnik taking 2nd and 3rd respectively for All-Conference honors. Rehberger’s time was his fastest ever and moved him into 7th on Carroll’s All-Time list, and he also anchored the winning 4×800 team. Jackson Barney joined the group as an additional All-Conference selection with his 3rd place finish in the Pole Vault.

Carroll’s women had multiple All-Conference performances as well. This included the 10,000m (Anna Terry – 3rd), Hammer Throw (Kayla Botkin – 3rd), Pole Vault (Chloe Gallagher – 2nd), Javelin (Sorren Reese – 2nd), and the Women’s 4x800m Relay (2nd). Botkin’s throw was a personal record, and Reese ran a lifetime best on her leg of the 4×800.

The Saints will go back to work tomorrow with tougher weather conditions expected. The meet will be contested again at Charlie Merrifield at Bulldog Memorial Stadium.
