Schwarz, Gaston Pace Alvernia at Millersville Metrics


Millersville, Pa. (April 8, 2024) – Alvernia University Women’s Track and Field wrapped up competition at the Millersville Metrics Invitational on Saturday afternoon, hosted by DII Millersville University.

Alvernia finished the event with seven top-ten finishes and seven new personal set.  The Golden Wolves also finished in tenth place in team standings out of 17 programs with 25 points. 

Highlights and Personal

  • Cera Gaston was Alvernia’s top finisher of the invitational with a first place finish in the 5,000m with a time of 18:18.14.
  • Elisabeth Schwarz took fourth in the 100m with a time of 12.91 seconds. Schwarz also had a ninth place finish in the 200m with a time of 26.63 seconds. 
  • Caitlin Sternberg took fourth in the with a time of 1:10.46. Sternberg also took ninth in the 100m with a time of 17.35 seconds.
  • Jessie Torres took sixth in the 800m with a time of 2:27.41. Rosnelly Sanchez de Aza just missed out on a top-ten finish in the 800m, but she did set a new personal record with a time of 2:28.81 to take 11th place in the event.
  • Mylina Castillo took seventh in the long jump with a mark of 4.96m.
  • Al’liyah McCloud and Samantha Wallace each finished with new personal in the 200m. McCloud ran a 28.40 for 35th place, and Wallace ran a 29.93 for 49th place. 
  • Maria Skulski finished with two new personal records. Skulski threw a 24.98m mark in the discus for a new PR and a 30th place finish. She also set a new PR in the with a mark of 8.10m for a 36th place finish.
  • Isabella Lesko and Alex Ficalora each set new personal records in the javelin to round out Alvernia’s PRs at Millersville. Lesko threw a 34.00m mark to take 12th place, and Ficalora threw 22.94m for 27th place. 

Up Next

  • Alvernia’s squad will split up this weekend, with some members of the team competing at the Messiah Invitational and Multis beginning on Thursday. Others will head to the Bucknell University Bison Outdoor Classic beginning on Friday.
