BOSTON – The Texas Tech men claimed the program’s first indoor NCAA track and field title after scoring 50.5 points during the three-day championship meet held at The Track at New Balance in Boston. The Red Raiders are the second Big 12 program to win an indoor national championship and the second in three seasons (Texas, 2022).
Three other Big 12 programs recorded top-10 finishes. The BYU women finished seventh with 28 points followed by the Oklahoma State Cowgirls tied for eighth with 27 points. The Cowboys tied for seventh with 23 points.
Terrence Jones came up big for the Red Raiders on Saturday by defending his title in the men’s 60-meter dash (6.54) while his teammate Don’dre Swint placed second. Jones would then claim the men’s 200 meters with a facility record of 20.23 seconds.
Caleb Dean secured the gold in the men’s 60-meter hurdles with a time of 7.56 seconds. He is the first hurdler from the Conference to win an NCAA title in 14 years.
On the TTU women’s side, Ruta Lasmane won the triple jump with a 14.47-meter jump.
Iowa State’s Sydney Willits earned the gold on Friday in the women’s long jump with a leap of 6.74 meters. She is the first Cyclone to claim a national championship title in the event.
The Conference took both wins in the distance medley relay with the Oklahoma State Cowboys defending their title with a facility record time of 9:25.24 before the BYU women claimed its title with a time of 10:51.42. It marked the Cougars’ second DMR title in four seasons (2021).
Texas’ Leo Neugebauer set his personal best score of 6,347 to claim the national men’s heptathlon title. His performance also exceeded the facility’s record of 5,903 points.
Big 12 silver medalists include OSU’s Taylor Roe (women’s 5,000 meters) and Billah Jepkirui (women’s mile).
Additional bronze medalists were BYU’s Lucas Bons (men’s mile) and Meghan Hunter (women’s 800 meters), Houston’s women’s distance medley relay team (Sydni Townsend, Kelly-Ann Beckford, Iman Babineaux and Michaela Mouton), ISU’s Finley Mclear (men’s 800 meters), Kansas’ Devin Loudermilk (men’s high jump), OSU’s Alex Maier (men’s 3,000 meters) and Texas’ Kristine Blazevica (women’s pentathlon).
