A day after holding their league-wide meet in girls’ tennis, the Downriver League continued its week of end-of-season meets by holding its annual track and field championships on Tuesday at Wyandotte Roosevelt.
A new-look schedule for the league with teams holding just four dual meets against conference foes this spring meant Tuesday’s festivites were for all the marbles. Among the bigger headlines coming into the meet was if the boys and girls teams from Allen Park and Brownstown Woodhaven, respectively, would replicate what they did a year ago in winning league titles.
Half of that came to fruition as the girls from Woodhaven collected a fourth straight DRL title and a fifth in the last six seasons overall. That highlighted what was a clean sweep for the Warriors, who saw their boys’ team finish first for the third time in four years.
