Track and Field Shines Bright at SLU Billiken Invitational


SAINT LOUIS – SIUE men’s and women’s track and continued the outdoor portion of its schedule on Friday at the SLU Billiken Invitational at the Medical Center Recreational Complex. The Cougars won seven events and several athletes set career best marks in the process.

Throws:

Grant Milbrath set a PR at 53.13m in the men’s hammer throw, earning a first overall. Luke Hatten grabbed second with a 46.55m toss. For the women, Alexis Hutchins earned second and set a PR at 57.26m. Her toss was good for the third best mark in program history. Gabby Yaccino earned third at 50.12m while Allison Sanders took fifth at 49.28m.

Milbrath also collected first in the men’s shot put at 15.26m. Luke Hatten threw for a PR for 15.18m for second. Hutchins also placed first in the women’s shot put at 14.10m while Maryiah Menicucci placed second at 13.27m.

In the women’s javelin, Jamirah Meeks collected fourth at 33.82m while Kaitlyn Morningstar took 14th at 26.95m.

Jumps:

Folasade Oladipupo’s 5.47m leap in the women’s earned the junior first overall. Dakota Krone took second at 5.38m while Sheena Cumberbatch placed third at 5.21m.

Konnor Bouman placed second in the men’s triple at 11.62m. For the women, Nyah Williams also collected second at 11.69m while Sheena Cumberbatch took third at 11.62m.

Sprints and Hurdles:

Freshman Konnor Bouman took a sixth-place finish in the men’s 100m dash, crossing the finish line at 11.23. Vashanti Reynolds also took a sixth and paced the Cougars on the women’s side of the 100m, posting a 12.81 mark. Nyah Williams (ninth/13.03) and Alise Simon (14th/13.33) also competed in the event.

Reynolds also collected second in the 100m hurdles, posting a 14.87 mark. Mia Jackson took third overall at 15.44.

On the men’s side of the 110m hurdles, Taylor Lehman finished fifth at 15.43. Simon McLaine followed behind at sixth with a 15.68 mark.

Kaylee Allen placed fourth in the women’s at 25.49. Kailah Carter (sixth/26.33) and Alise Simon also ran in the .

Konrad Sacha earned second in the men’s 400m at 50.35. For the women, Kaylee Allen placed first overall in the 400m at 57.68, good for a PR. Kailah Carter also earned a spot on the podium, coming in at second place with a 58.24 time.

In the men’s 400m hurdles, Taylor Lehman set a PR en route to a finish at 55.37. Cole Knapp took second at 55.88 while Simon McLaine posted a 56.00 time for third. Caden Belcher finished inside the top 10 at 58.89 for eighth.

Aseanti Boone posted a 1:11.04 mark in the women’s 400m for first overall. Her time was good for a PR.

Mid-Distance and Distance:

Gabrielle Horton finished third in the women’s 800m, crossing the finish line at 2:18.16. Megan Derrick took 15th at 2:32.92.

In the men’s , Zach Walters paced the Cougars with a 4:10.07 time. Jackson Edwards (4:12.48) and D’Andre Watson (4:13.39) also competed and both ran for a PR. On the women’s side, Mia Jackson led SIUE with a 5:07.42 mark for 19th while Ana Keller took 21st at 5:14.88, good for a PR.

Alexis Kampwerth represented the women in the 3,000m steeple, crossing the finish line at 13:31.43.

Spencer Hielkema took fourth in the men’s 5,000m at 15:23.15. Tyler Guthrie also finished inside the top 10 at 15:23.15. Kaitlyn Walker tallied a second-place finish in the women’s 5,000m at 18:00.91. Natalia Rodriguez (third/19:19.23), Riley Doyle (fourth/19:28.52), and Olivia Wolfe (19:57.06) rounded out SIUE’s top five in the event.
