SIOUX FALLS – The 119th running of the State Track and Field championships was held over the weekend at Howard Wood Field in Sioux Falls and Central South Dakota athletes made a number of appearances at the top of the podium after State Championship performances.
Pierre senior Reese Terwilliger capped a brilliant three-sport athletic career with her second straight title in the shot put after a heave of just under 42 feet. Terwilliger also placed sixth in the discus throw.
Fellow senior Jared Lutmer also earned a championship when he won the 3200-meter run in a time of 9:20.74 on Friday. Lutmer coupled his win in the 2-mile with a State AA Cross Country championship he earned back in October. He then also placed sixth in the 1600-meter run on Saturday.
Other Pierre place finishers included Kali Ringstmeyer placing third in both the girls 100-meter and 200-meter dashes, Charlee Williams-Smith with a fourth-place finish in the 400-meter dash and eighth in the 200, Greyson Schuetzle fifth in the boys 110-meter high hurdles, Carson Stoeser sixth in the boys 400-meter dash and Caleb Morris seventh in the boys 3200-meter run. The Governor 4×800-meter relay team also placed seventh in that event.
