UCF Track and Field concludes first season in Big 12 with Rayniah Jones leading the way

Senior Rayniah Jones takes her mark at the start line before her race begins. Jones concluded UCF’s first season in the Big 12 with three top three finishes at the East Coast on Saturday.




UCF and closed out their outdoor season with several personal bests and top-five finishes at the East Coast on Friday and Saturday.

The highlight of the road trip came Saturday with senior Rayniah Jones’ performance in an event she’s all too familiar with — the 100-meter hurdles. After winning UCF’s Female Athlete of the Year award at the 2024 Swords Awards on Tuesday, Jones appeared eager to showcase her abilities that earned her the prestigious title.

Jones came out of her block hot, laser-focused on the finish line. Never looking back, Jones crossed the finish line to cap off the season with yet another first-place finish. Her season-best time of 12.77 is now the third-best in the for the 100-meter hurdles.

The rest of the Knights also carried their weight, helping the team achieve several top-five finishes over the weekend. Opening up day one at the meet, the Knights divvied out five personal bests and four top-10 finishes.

Freshman Brianna Rodriguez started the day for UCF in the 400-meter hurdles squeezing into the top five. The South Carolina native captured fourth overall in the event with a time of 1:00.82, less than a second off from her personal best of 1:00.06.

Junior Natalia Madison, junior Holly Cassels, freshman Alexis Waller, and junior Leiya Green all competed in the long jump at the meet. Although nobody was able to crack into the top 10, Waller and Cassels both finished with new personal bests in the event.

Over in the 200-meter dash, junior I’Asia Wilson and sophomore Paige Archer both finished top 10 with new personal records. Wilson finished seventh overall with her new best time of 23.42 and Archer came in close behind at 23.54 for 10th.

Freshman Abby Clements achieved the Knight’s last personal best of the day with her performance in the 1,500-meter . Clements’ time of 4:40.79 allowed her to finish ninth in her heat and 18th overall, just milliseconds behind junior Lillian Holtery who finished 17th at 4:40.57.

Junior Brenna Mullaney concluded Friday night with her performance in the 3,000-meter . After running a time of 11:03.08, Mullaney got UCF its second top-five finish of the day with her fourth-place achievement.

The Knights would then close out their season with four more top-five finishes on Saturday.

The 4×100-meter relay team got things started for the Knights as they competed on day two. The squad of senior Ani Wells, Jones, Archer, and Wilson tied their season-best time of 43.92 to secure the third-place finish in the event.

Junior Asherah Collins cleared 13 meters in the triple jump for fourth place. Waller also competed in the event, achieving yet another personal best over the weekend after covering 12.29 meters in the event for 12th.

The UCF Female Athlete of the Year then closed things out for the Knights in the 100-meter dash. Jones achieved third place in the event, for her third top-three finish over the weekend to close out the team’s first season as members of the Big 12.

The team will now take some time to rest and prepare ahead of the Big 12 Outdoor Championships in Waco, Texas at the Clyde Hart and Stadium from May 9 to May 11.
