VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – Jane Fahy of the Utica University women’s indoor Track and Field team captured All-American status with a second place finish in the shot put at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday, March 9. She led five Empire 8 student-athletes over the weekend.
Her final throw of 14.44 meters (47′ 4.5″) solidified her second place finish as well as All-American honors.
Fahy, who competed in the second heat, came out with her first throw at 12.67 meters. She then followed it up with marks of 13.35 meters and 13.72 meters to place herself in the finals in eighth place after preliminary action.
Fahy’s first toss of the finals rocketed her up to fourth place as she hit 14.31 meters. Her next attempt was marked at 14.01 meters before her sixth and final go around traveled 14.44 meters which moved her to second place. This marked her second-farthest throw of her season, trailing only her 14.68 meter throw that she had at the AARTFC Championships last week.
The now two-time All-American trailed only Alexis Boykin of MIT who captured the individual national title with a distance of 14.79 meters. Fahy placed sixth at the 2023 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in the shot put at St. John Fisher University.
On Friday, Veronica Duell of St. John Fisher University placed 18th overall in the long jump with a leap of 5.10 meters. Lea Richard of Nazareth University had a throw of 17.01 meters in the weight throw to place 13th overall, while Kaleb Luton, also of Nazareth, placed 11th overall in the preliminaries of the men’s 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.15 seconds.
St. John Fisher senior Sean Cochrane finished 14th overall in the men’s high jump, clearing 1.99 meters.
