Diamond league and Continental tour meets are stacked and they are open for athletes around the entire globe. I agree that some meets over in the US are under graded but that is mainly cause they don't fit the world athletics standards( the NCAA for example isnt a national age championship and isn't open for every one to compete). This makes it hard for them to grade the meeting among the top of them even though its field is definitly high class. Here in the Netherlands we have our own Students championship similar to the NCAA but the quality is in comparison pretty poor. If the NCAA as a student national meet is ranked A or B, ours has to be to even though it wouldn't deserve it. Thats why the NCAA is rated F. I do agree however that more diamond league and continental tour meets should be held outside of europe, not only more in the US but also diamond league meets in regions that have no big meets in close aproximation like australia, southamerica and probably also one more in central/ south africa just for good measure. instead of the current 3 in Scandinavia, 2 in England, 2 in Switserland, 2 in France, 1 in Germany, 1 Italy etc. This way colleges athletes can compete for their world ranking outside of the NCAA and still in the US. Of course you want athletes to compete outside their home borders but you shouldn't force athletes to do so by planning all big meets over in Europe.
I think the qualifying times are completely ridiculous especially for the 100m. The whole point in my opinion at the world championships is to show the worlds best athletes, crown the best athlete from that event and so forth. 10.00 is an insane time considering a lot of nations even like Australia only have 1 athlete EVER who has made that time (sub 10). Same thing for a lot of countries and with the time so far from reach it takes the diversity of the olympics and world championships we LOVE TO SEE. Yes we all want to see the worlds best athletes i agree but i want to also see the WORLDS best athletes not a diamond league tour with an all American, Jamaican, etc line up.
At the end of the day, it's the best athletes in the world. Technology is moving at a fast pace and so is the fitness of athletes. Therefore, we're going to continue to see quick times. Way to go, Seb Coe!
Why do disrespectful at Euros still was a crazy meet with top tier athletes wasn’t just on American TV but otherwise that US it really was a big comp like why you so disrespectful
The European Champs were online live where I live (DMV). I'm not why you couldn't view them.
College athletes should be focused on performing in college. That's why they are in college to win college meets not pro meets. If they can't compete with the pros due to rules oh well..World athletics should be catered towards professionals anyway.
Also Colin, the reason why commonwealth and euro Champs are the same year as the world championship is because covid delayed the world championships by 1 year. The commonwealth is every 4 years and this year is in their cycle. They Shouldn't have to change their schedule because of covid delays from 2 years ago.
In an ideal world, rankings should decide most of the qualifying spots just like in other individual sports as it values consistency. However, due to various issues such as limited meets + athletes with less clout/a worse agent having no access to high scoring meets, NCAA athletes getting less points despite competing more (and often with higher competition than some ContinentalTour meets), etc., there will always be elements of unfairness. I think if they’re not going to make an effort to encourage more meets to exist to be viable to rack up ranking points, they should look towards alternate solutions because the people who get into all the biggest meets are the people who are more likely to get the marks and hence not need the ranking points anyways.
To me it just looks like they want our pro athletes to be seen more. Also moving in the direction of what Raestake was saying with college athletes not being able to compete at worlds. I like these new standards.
Love this!!
