Women’s and Men’s Track and Field Race to School Records in the 4×400 Relay


The Hope College women’s men’s teams both set school records in the 4×400 relay on Thursday in Rock Island, Illinois.

At Augustana College, the Flying Dutch’s 4×400 relay of Catherine Leahy (Elk Rapids, Michigan / Elk Rapids HS), Erin Moran (Arlington Heights, Illinois / John Hersey), Jasmine Zimmerman (Byron Center, Michigan / School) Sara Schermerhorn (Traverse City, Michigan / Traverse City West) clocked a seventh-place time of 3 minutes, 49.28 seconds.

The relay passed the 2023 Hope mark of 3:49.54 belonging to Julie Timperman, Schermerhorn, Moran Grace Behrens and is the 18th-fastest time in the nation this season.

The Flying Dutchmen’s 4×400 relay of Joshua Ennen (Zeeland, Michigan / Zeeland West), Liam Danitz (West Branch, Michigan / Ogemaw Heights), Eli Meder (Williamston, Michigan / Lansing Catholic) and Nathan Woolum (Mattawan, Michigan / Mattawan recorded a 16th-place run of 3:16.29.

The relay eclipsed the 2010 Hope record of 3:17.13 from Frank Previch, Aaron Treiber, Elliot Barney and Nick Rinck and is the 30th-fastest time in Division III this season.

Augustana’s non-scoring Twilight Qualifier was Hope’s final event before the field is finalized for the outdoor national championships later this month.

Sophomore Ian Petruska (Fort Collins, Colorado / Fort Collins) posted a PR in the men’s 1,500 meters while winning in 3:56.42.

In the men’s 400 hurdles, Woolu raced to a season-best time of 53.41 seconds.

In the 1,500-meter invite races, senior Olivia Quillan (Grandville, Michigan / Calvin Christian) took sixth in the women’s event with a run of 4:34.35. Junior Connor Vachon (Jenison, Michigan / Jenison) finished ninth in the men’s race at 3:49.96.

In the women’s 100 meters, Schermerhorn finished 10th in 12.15 seconds.

In the men’s 3,000-meter steeplechase, senior Dan Campbell (Brighton, Michigan / Brighton) placed 13th with a season-best run of 9:12.94.
