Women’s Indoor Track and Field Collects Multiple NEC Postseason Honors

EASTON, Mass. (May 30, 2024) – Freshman Kayla Oakes (Kingston, N.Y.) earned the NEC’s Co-Most Outstanding Field Performer (jumps) as the Northeast Conference announced its Indoor and Field awards Thursday afternoon.

Oakes’ personal best mark of 5.73m (18′ 9.5″) secured the top spot in the long jump at NEC Indoor Championships, earning her a spot on the NEC -Conference First Team and -Rookie Team. Oakes was the first individual winner the Skyhawks at an NEC Indoor in Stonehill’s first two seasons at the Division I level.

Overall, the Skyhawks finished the two-day event with 81.2 points to place fifth while Central Connecticut State secured first place with 125 points. The meet was held in February at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island, N.Y.

Joining Oakes on the -Conference First Team was senior Kaytlin Encarnacao (Reading, Mass.) who won both the 400-meter dash and 4×400-meter relay race at NEC Indoor Championships. Encarnacao finished the 400m dash in 56.88 seconds to secure her first individual indoor conference crown.

Also earning NEC All-Conference First Team honors was the squad of sophomore Grace Tyrrell (Cavendish, Vt.), freshman Katie Gibbons (Pembroke, Mass.), freshman Madison Stott (Dartmouth, Mass.), and Encarnacao that came in first place in the 4×400-meter relay race with a time of 3:54.64.

Stott finished the 500-meter race in 1:16.37 to place second, earning her a nod on the NEC All-Conference Second Team and All-Rookie Team.

Junior Emma Lawrence (Milford, Mass.) came in second place in the 800-meter final, crossing the finish line in 2:17.16, also notching All-Conference Second Team honors.
