NEWTOWN, Pa. (April 26, 2024) – The Stevens Institute of Technology women’s outdoor track and field team was picked second in the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Pre-Championship poll, the league office announced Friday. The vote was conducted among the league’s 16 head coaches.  

The Ducks received three first-place votes and amassed 194 points to rank second among the 16 competing teams. Defending conference champion Widener received 13 first-place votes and totaled 222 points to earn the pre-championship favorite. Lebanon Valley received the other first-place vote and slotted behind Stevens with 189 points to tie with Misericordia for third. Messiah rounded out the top five with 163 points.

Stevens, who finished third one year ago, collected 10 medals one year ago, including five gold medals, which was tied for the most in the conference. With just one event left on the calendar ahead of the conference championship meet, the Ducks currently hold 16 top-five seeds, including graduate student Laura Mathews, who holds the top spot in four different events: 200, 100 hurdles, long jump and heptathlon. Sophomore Alexis Merola is the top seed in the pole vault, while junior Caroline Tighe is atop the leaderboard in the high jump to round out the Ducks’ current first-place seeds.

The 2024 MAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships will be hosted by Widener University May 2-4 at the George A. Hansell and the Elizabeth J. Hirschmann Field at Leslie C. Quick Jr. Stadium. The appropriate event links will be posted to StevensDucks.com once available.
