Lynchburg, VA (March 23, 2024) – The DeSales University women’s track & field team opened its outdoor season competing at the Dr. Jack M. Toms Invitational at Lynchburg College on Friday and Saturday.
DSU saw 12 student-athletes post MAC Championship qualifying standards in the season opener.
In the track events senior Breyanna Roper qualified in the 100-meters with a time of 13.48 (30th place). In the 200-meters sophomore Lindsay Bednarek qualified with a time 27.10 and first-year Avery Peluszak qualified in the 400-meters with a time of 1:01.47.
Junior Haley Estus qualified in two events placing first the 5K with a time of 18:24.84 and third in the 1,500-meters (5:01.71). Her time in the 5K also qualified Estus for the AARTFC Championships. Junior Shae Zeitler was fourth in the 5K qualifying with a time of 19:20.08 and senior Caitlyn Saccary qualified in the 5K with a time of 19:30.96. Rounding out the qualifiers in the 10K were junior Nina Viglianti with a time of 41:09.03.
In the field events junior Emma Mele qualified in the pole vault (3.20m) and first-year Sophia Manidis qualified in the hammer throw (30.95m). First-year Catherine Crampton and sophomore Mikaili Donmoyer each qualified in both the long jump and triple jump. Crampton jumped 4.64m (LJ) and 10.24m (TJ) and Donmoyer jumped 4.84m (LJ) and 9.88m (TJ).
The Bulldogs are back in action on Saturday when they travel to the Danny Curran Invitational at Widener University on Saturday.
