Julien Alfred shocked the field in the women’s 200m final! 😱 Despite having only the third-fastest reaction time, Alfred produced the strongest overall race and crossed the finish line first in 21.79 seconds.
Kayla White had the fastest reaction off the blocks at 0.135, while Amy Hunt reacted in 0.156 and Alfred in 0.166. But the early advantage didn’t last.
The split data tells the real story. At 10m, White was ahead, but by the later stages, Alfred had completely changed the race. At 20m, Alfred recorded 20.63, moving ahead of White at 20.80 and Hunt at 20.98.
Alfred eventually finished first in 21.79, ahead of Kayla White at 22.00 and Amy Hunt at 22.16 SB.
This race proves that in the 200m, the fastest reaction doesn’t always produce the fastest finish. Alfred’s acceleration, speed development and closing strength made the difference when it mattered most.
