Diamond League Season Sees Records Shattered And Stars Shine

The 2026 Diamond League season is in full swing, showcasing incredible athleticism and breaking new ground in track and field. This year’s competition features an expanded format with eight “Diamond+ Disciplines” per meet, offering increased prize money to top performers. The series is scheduled to conclude with the prestigious Diamond League Finals in Brussels, Belgium, on September 4th and 5th, 2026.

Recent events have already delivered breathtaking performances. In Paris, three Diamond League records were shattered. Busang Collen Kebinatshipi set a new men’s 400m record with a time of 43.54, while Audrey Werro blazed to a new women’s 800m record of 1:53.80. Marileidy Paulino delivered a stunning performance in the women’s 400m, breaking both the Diamond League and meet records with a world-leading time of 48.48. The incredible displays extended to the field events, with Armand Duplantis setting a new meet record in the men’s pole vault at 6.13m, and Ziyi Yan achieving a meet-record throw of 67.44m in the women’s javelin.

Earlier in the season, the Doha Diamond League saw memorable clashes, with Emma Zapletalová and Marileidy Paulino breaking meeting records. The Diamond League continues to evolve, with this season marking the seventeenth year of the annual series organized by World Athletics. The series features 32 Diamond Discipline events, and athletes earn qualification points at each meet to contend for the Diamond League title in the season-ending Zurich final. This revamped structure aims to enhance the top-level athletics experience since the Diamond League’s inception in 2010.
