Aotearoa Track & Field News – 13 Jan 2022

We’re kicking off 2022 with a bang! Here are your top five (well, actually six) stories in the world of run, jump and throw in New Zealand.

The Lovelock Classic in Timaru featured two electric mile races with Katherine Camp taking out the women’s race with a 66-second final lap and Chanel Muir (adding to his 2020 win in the same race) beating out five others over the final 400m.

The 100 metre races, girls and boys, were both epic. With the long awaited match up between Zoe Hobbs and Anna Percy (with Zoe affirming she is very much still ahead of the pack) and Tiaan Whelpton stamping his mark with a commanding win over the reigning NZ 100m champ Shay Veitch.

Also, Nick Willis runs a mile on the stroke of midnight on New Years attempting to add another sub-4 mile to his 19-year streak—aiming to become the first person in history to complete the feat every year for 20 years. And Emma Timmis ran the length of New Zealand in only 20 days!
