Security added for California Track and Field championship amid trans athlete controversy

Security is top of mind following a controversy over a transgender athlete who is set to compete this weekend at the California Interscholastic Federation Track and Field Championship in Clovis.

The controversy has drawn national attention, including that of President Donald Trump, who has threatened to withhold funding from the state if the trans athlete is allowed to compete.

FOX26 News spoke with CIF officials about this weekend’s event and any potential security concerns, given there are voices on both sides of the issue that have expressed their intent to attend the event.

“We are working with the Clovis Unified School District to ensure appropriate levels of security are staffed at our event,” CIF said in a statement.
